Featured Installation: Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church

Flexibility was a goal on stage as well:
Six wedge mixes were specified, using Nexo PS-8s and PS-10s, and one Fostex 8031b (as a hot-spot for the organist). To accommodate as many musicians as possible, 8 Aviom A16Rs were installed, the outputs of which were hooked up to 8 Shure PSM600s (a wireless in-ear) via a Rane MM42 for signal processing.
Flexibility was a consideration in Fair Oaks’ microphone selection, as well: for vocals, Neumann KMS105s, AKG C5900s, and Shure SM87s and SM58s are all options. For instruments, AKG C451Bs, C414s, and C1000s, Nuemann KM87s, Shure SM81s, SM94s, and SM57s are available. For wireless, Fair Oaks went with Lectrosonics Venue system. We installed two VR6 receivers, each of which supports six channels of wireless, for 12 total channels. Included were eight handheld transmitters with AKG C5900 capsules and four bodypack transmitters.
A variety of equipment was installed at FOH to complement the C100 and aid in creating a flexible system for the operator. Of all that gear, a few are noteworthy:
- For effects, a TC Electronics Reverb6000 was installed, a four-stereo-engine reverb unit, with an Icon remote control, which gave scene-level recall of all four engines. Also, a pair of Lexicon PCM-81s and PCM-91s supplemented the 6000, giving the operator tremendous power and flexibility in shaping the sounds of individual sources, as well as overall mixes.
- Three Tascam HD24 ADATs were installed, giving Fair Oaks the ability to multi-track their services, up to 72 tracks. An Alesis Masterlink was installed for CD mastering, and an HHB CDR830+ was installed for recording live to CD.
When Fair Oaks Presbyterian came to us, they were looking for a change, and they had some specific goals. We made those goals our own, and partnered with them to see them realized. After the installation was complete, long-time congregation members were commenting to Odum that they are now finally able to hear the sermon clearly, something that hasn’t been the case since Fair Oaks opened the doors to its current sanctuary in 1985.
